You can actually rent bikes, so no need to purchase. But if you do want to buy your own bicycle, just don’t buy it from an unofficial source. This means off the street. Or from some stranger who approaches you. Most likely it was stolen, and buying stolen goods is illegal. Besides, it may have defective or missing parts. You can go to bike shops and buy bikes. Never trust a stranger, even one selling a bicycle. It may seem funny, but authorities won’t find it funny if you get caught with stolen goods. Even if you explain that you did not know it was stolen.
