Don’t Expect Cash Or Credit Cards To Be Accepted Anywhere

Unlike most major cities, Amsterdam is unique (or weird) in the sense that cash payments are surprisingly uncommon. Some establishments have completely phased out transacting with cash. And not all credit cards are accepted either. Best carry a debit card like Maestro to be sure. However, there are tourist-friendly places that will accept your currency, but only if it is US dollars or British pounds. No racial discrimiation here, it’s just that these are the most traded type of currency aside from the euros. Having a little of any of the currencies will help if your credit card is denied. Best to always have them check it before you order at a bar or restaurant.
