Most hotels, especially the large ones, will have western food (like cheeseburgers, pizza, fries and the like) to cater to the preference of tourists. But that doesn’t mean that you should miss out trying the local cuisine. Jamaican food is tasty and mouthwatering. Hotels and restaurants all over the island offer different varieties of these local cuisine. Local food like Jerk chicken, oxtail, and curried goat to sides like fried plantains, bammy (a cassava flat bread), and sautéed callaloo (a vegetable dish made of indigenous leafy vegetables); all of these are delicious, albeit some are not that healthy. For a quick bite, why not go for the Jamaican patties (a flaky pastry with a savory filling) and a bottle of Red Stripe (a popular Jamaican pale lager). You also need to make sure that you at least try Ackee and saltfish; which is a traditional Jamaican dish that combines the buttery and creamy texture of ackee with the salty taste of the saltfish (which is basically dried and salted fish). Then you can wash it all down with a cup or two of strong Jamaican coffee.
