A great advice whenever visiting a foreign country would be to find out the travel advisories of the State Department for that country. The same applies to trips to Jamaica. Tourist should be aware before travel to Jamaica that crimes such as home invasions, sexual assault, armed robberies and even homicide are common in the entire county. In addition, sexual assaults occur frequently, even inside gated all-inclusive resorts. Travels should also take note that the local police do not have the necessary resources to respond effectively and efficiently to serious criminal incidents. In addition, tourists should be informed that availability of emergency services and their response times vary throughout the island. And that most of these are not up to U.S. standards.
