Tom Petty And His Mustache in 1976

Groovy History

Tom Petty was the lead singer of Tom Petty and Heartbreakers who eventually became part of the group the Traveling Wilburys, as well as moving on to a solo career that was incredibly successful. He had a number of hit songs including “Don’t Do Me Like That,” “I Won’t Back Down,” and “Free Falling,” which became increasingly popular once again after Tom Cruise sang it in the movie, Jerry Maguire. This particular photo shows Petty sporting a rather thick mustache, which was the popular facial hair style of choice back then. Unfortunately, Petty past away after having a heart attack when he was just a few days shy of his 67th birthday.
