The Grayback was made from the best. The Electric Boat Company’s workers were built with skilled hands and brains to boot. It comes as no surprise, too, as the company had been building submarines since 1899. The very first project that the US had with them was the navy’s very first sub, the U.S.S. Holland. This had been commissioned in 1900 during the first world war, and since then, the company and their associated shipyards built a total of 85 other submarines along with other crafts for both the US Navy and the British Royal Navy.
