The Electric Boat Company had 85 submarines under its belt, and during WWII, they had created another 74 submarines, one of which was the Grayback. She was considered a Tambor-class vessel, one of the 12 they had built. Seven of these vessels were destroyed during the war, and since then, these Tambor submarines were ultimately removed from combat service in 1945. Unfortunately, the Grayback’s demise meant that it never made it to the very end of the conflict. It disappeared before the crew can even bring it safely back to port.
