History

Weather and situation notwithstanding, the Grayback had set off for her next two patrols at the South China Sea. These missions, unfortunately, had been blighted. There were too many barriers such as Axis patrol boats, moonlit nights, and rough seas. It was impossible for her to remain concealed as she navigated through enemy territory and dangerous seas. Still, she managed to hit an enemy sub and some merchant shops during her time in the ocean. After the routine docking and maintenance, she then headed for her fifth tour of duty. The mission began she set off from her dock in Australia on December 7, 1942.
