Testing Out Her Strength

After the Grayback was commissioned, she immediately embarked on a new mission. It was a shakedown cruise under the expert leadership of Lieutenant Willard A. Saunders of Long Island Sound. This was the perfect opportunity for her to show off and test out the systems that she came with. This also was the time for the crew to familiarize themselves with what the vessel had to offer. She was more than up for the challenge and went immediately on patrol to Chesapeake Bay and the Caribbean in September of 1941.
