Here’s another act of chivalry that hasn’t gone old in Russia: Don’t go Dutch. Russian men do not ask women out to dinner then split the cost of the meal equally between them. If you’re a man traveling to Russia, don’t ask a Russian woman out on a date and expect her to pay for her share. But since you’re a tourist who might be unaccustomed to this tradition because you’ve been surrounded by independent women most of your life, you can suggest that you pay separately. If she brought her wallet with her, she’ll probably cover her share. However, don’t expect to see this gorgeous woman again. Some Russian women don’t bother bringing any money with them when going out with a man. Similarly, if you’re a woman on a date with a Russian, don’t be offended if he offers to pay for everything. Instead, enjoy your meal and the company.
