You might enjoy watching American stand-up comedians telling “Yo Momma” jokes. You might’ve even delivered a few of these jokes at home, and got your friends crying from laughing too much. Do not expect the same response and reception in Russia. Russians do not share the Americans’ sense of humor, and they definitely do not find jokes about someone’s mother or father amusing. In fact, they will find all jokes about any family member offensive. So, if you’re tempted to say, “Yo Momma so…” to break the ice, don’t. Just don’t. Better yet, restrain yourself from telling any jokes because the Russians might miss the punchline and instead take your joke too seriously.
