Do Not Invade Personal Space

Source: http://cdn.lifebuzz.com

Swedes may appear reserved or distant, particularly with their need for personal space. While some of us may find this aloof or even standoffish, Swedes respect personal distance out of consideration for other people’s personal space and privacy in public places. So, don’t stand too close to the next person, especially when you’re in a line of commuters waiting for transport. Once you get on a bus, don’t sit next to someone even when you see a pair of seats. In elevators, stand as far apart as you can from the other person. Don’t even attempt to initiate small talk. If you do get to strike up a conversation, keep a little over an arm’s length of distance between you and the other person, and minimize physical contact during your chat. Take note that personal space is still maintained among family and friends.
