Don’t Insult Swedish Beer

In Sweden, you need to go to government-owned liquor stores called Systembolaget to buy any beer that contains more than 3.5% alcohol by volume. While 2.8% or 3.5% percent beer and cider can be bought from local supermarkets, retail stores are not allowed to sell alcoholic beverages stronger than 3.5%. In fact, until Sweden joined the EU in 1995, beer with an ABV higher than 5.6% was prohibited from being sold anywhere. If you’re used to drinking something stronger, don’t disrespect the Swedish beer by complaining that it’s too light or watered-down. Don’t compare their beer with what you have at home, and never say that your brew is much better. Swedes like their beer the way it is, so just order something else like vodka if you find the beer much lighter than what you’re accustomed to. Don’t drink in excess either just to get your fill.
