Don’t Forget To Buy Alcohol Early

The bars and restaurants in Sweden all serve beer, wine, and liquor, but drinking in these establishments is very expensive. A cheaper option would be to buy your beer or liquor from a Systembolaget outlet and just drink in your hotel room. However, these state-run liquor stores have relatively strict business hours limited to 10 AM to 6 PM Mondays to Wednesdays and 10 AM to 7 PM Thursdays and Fridays. The stores are open only till 3 PM on Saturdays and are closed the entire day on Sundays. So, if you need to buy a pack of beer for an evening get-together or a bottle of wine for dinner, make sure to get to the shop on time because they close on the dot. Though this may seem restrictive, there were shorter business hours in the past when the shops were closed even on Saturdays. If you’re planning to drink over a holiday weekend, get to a Systembolaget shop several days ahead because there will be long lines stretching down the block days before any big holiday or festival.
