Do Not Overindulge

Swedes value “Lagom,” a traditional concept generally described as “the middle way” or “moderation.” Following the Swedish proverb “Lagom är bäst” which means “Enough is as good as a feast,” Swedes have a sense of contentment and find things sufficient as they are. Lagom is reflected in the locals’ respect for natural resources, the simplicity of their cuisine, the functionality of their architecture, and even in the objectives behind their welfare system where they ensure everyone has enough and nobody goes without. Lagom is presented in their way of life, their choices, and the conservative manner they present themselves. Since Swedes value equality and moderation, except to be frowned upon if you do or take anything in excess. Highly animated gestures considered as excessive behavior, gaudiness, bragging, and boasting are some of the biggest taboos in the country. They don’t appreciate guests who are too loud, who intentionally find ways to stand out from a crowd, and who overindulge.
