Sweden is a global leader in the fight against human trafficking, and the government complies with the minimum standards for the elimination of the sex trade industry. The state has a national action plan to improve awareness of trafficking issues and increase internal and international cooperation to combat sexual exploitation. However, while the laws on prostitution in Sweden make it illegal to purchase sexual services, it is not illegal to sell the use of one’s body to provide these services. This Swedish model for fighting prostitution has been hugely successful though.
