“Rocky IV” is a 1980s movie that shows the life of the titular character Rocky Balboa (played by Sylvester Stallone) after reclaiming his championship title and his plans for retirement. Until his friend Apollo Creed (played by Carl Weathers) dies in an exhibition match against the Russian Ivan Drago (played by Dolph Lundgren). Rocky would then train and eventually fight Ivan Drago as payback for his friend’s death. It is a very popular movie and people know of the simple but dramatic plot. But, how would the movie have been if Apollo Creed was played by a different actor? It almost happened. Since the actor Carl Weathers almost quit. Weathers almost quit the movie since Dolph Lundgren, a towering black-belt fighter but a novice actor, was a bit too physical during filming. Lundgren got carried away and once threw Weathers “three feet” into the corner of the ring while shooting the fight scene. Stunned and shaken by this occurrence, Weathers threatened to quit. Stallone ultimately persuaded him to stay and complete filming.
