While Colombia is relatively safe, it has criminal elements like anywhere else in the world. Travellers should always protect their belongings, and be aware of their surroundings. Wearing jewelry is not a good idea, even if it is not real, it will still attract thieves. Don’t flaunt your cash either. Several tourists who did surely regretted it. Aside from pickpockets, be aware that there are snatchers, muggers, and con-men. Not to mention the rapists, addicts, and murderers.
