Do Not Expect Most People To Speak English

Even with so many American and British tourists, Colombians hardly speak English. Even officials at the Tourism Agency are not conversant in English.  It is not important for them, as it is not the language used in Colombia. Schools do not require English to be learned. It seems puzzling that this is the norm, but get used to it. Better if you learn some Spanish, it would be easier for you. After all, you are the visitor. Don’t expect the locals to adjust to you. You have to adjust to them, simple as that.
