It seems that servers at restaurants and cafes are not eager to serve their customers, especially if they are not Spanish speaking. You will have to literally beg to be served. Tipping is not customary, and at times it will be included in your bill (you can have it removed if you were not happy with the service). Incompetent workers can’t be fired unless there is verifiable good cause, or the employers can be sued. So be aware why there are a lot of inept servers. Most would rather not work as servers, but they have to earn a living. Don’t expect them to be cheerful and attentive. Knowing this will prepare you.
