Never Call It A Submarine Sandwich

Unless you want to totally stick out like a sore thumb, which you won’t be able to help if you’re really not from Philly anyway, then never call the submarine sandwiches a “submarine sandwich.” Rather, call them a hoagie, because that’s exactly what they are. Although it looks like a submarine sandwich, and in reality it is, they never call it that. The sandwich was named Hoagie when workers used to eat these types of sandwiches while they worked at Hog Island.
