Never be Negligent with Your Personal Belongings

Generally speaking, Spain is a safe destination for tourists. The most common crime that happens in Spain is petty theft. Take note that foreigners are the targets of choice for many pickpockets and thieves. These criminals operate in hotel lobbies, restaurants, public transport systems, airports, and other locations frequented by tourists. Upon your arrival in Spain, regardless if it is at the airport, train station, bus station, hotel, or other areas with large crowds, you must keep a close eye on your personal belongings.

You may consider using a money belt or a carry safe wallet if you expect to be carrying significant amounts of cash. Also, if your hotel room has a personal safe, write down the numbers of your bank cards and other important information and store these in your personal safe. If you brought along more than one bank card, it would be wise to leave one inside the safe; just in case of loss or theft of your wallet and other personal belongings. At least if something happens, you will still have funds available.
