Never Buy Single Use Bottled Water

A good thing for tourists to know when visiting Spain is that the drinking water is potable in many areas. At least 99.5% of all public tap water in Spain is safe to drink and this is in accordance with international water quality standards. However, there may be some issues with the taste and odor; these may be due to chlorine by-products, microplastics and local pipe contaminants. As a result, many travelers choose to purchase bottled water instead, since they are not used to the taste of Spanish tap water. However, there is not evidence that bottled water is safer or healthier. There is some research that points to it otherwise. So, regardless if you are just visiting Spain or are planning to live there, it would be best to avoid single use bottled water (if you can).
If you can’t get used to the taste of the tap water or you are worried about the contaminants in the water, you can get a portable and easy to install water filter. With this, you can save some money and reduce plastic waste. Just remember to bring a reusable water bottle with you when you head-out on your adventures!
