People typically imagine Spain as a Mediterranean coast with hot and dry summers, or central Spain with its continental climate. People generally fail to consider the Northern climates. The Northwestern part of Spain has an oceanic climate, it has cool summers, winters and rain throughout the year. While the mountainous regions in the North-central and Northeastern parts of Spain have an alpine climate. The geographical location and the orographic conditions of Spain make its climate diverse. Certain regions can be very cold during the winter, but extremely hot during summer. The climate of the country can generally be categorized according to 3 groups: Continental, Mediterranean, and Oceanic.
For travelers who are not familiar with Spain’s varying weather, it would be best to check the general climate of the city or cities you are planning to visit.
