Never Worry About Tipping

Source: https://www.washingtonpost.com

Tipping is something that is not expected in Spain. However, if you received good service and would like to give a tip, it is of course welcome. The good thing is that, if you experienced bad service, you are not obliged to give a tip.
Restaurants in most cases include a service charge in the check, even though it may not indicate it. An extra tip of 5-10% of the bill would be much appreciated. If you eat tapas and drink wine at a bar, you may tip the cocktail servers €0.50 a drink, this still depends on the establishment though. Even in fancy establishments, you don’t need to leave more than a 10% tip. Most taxi drivers won’t even expect a tip, and a lot would be happy if you just round up in their favor. If the meter shows that your fare is €19.50, paying €20 would suffice. If the taxi driver goes an extra mile for you (like helping you haul your huge luggage) or your ride was particularly long, then you may give a tip. But if you are short on change, you won’t hear them complain; and in some cases, the driver may even round down in your favor instead (they may not want to rummage through their pockets looking for the exact change).
Bottomline, when you are in Spain you don’t have to worry too much about tipping. One less thing to think about, and more time to enjoy your vacation!
