If renting a car and driving around Spain is not for you, you don’t have to worry. Of course, driving isn’t for everyone, and that’s where Spain’s public transportation networks come to the rescue! The public transportation in Spain ranges from the underground railway systems (Metros) to the inter-city speed rails (Renfe), and it’s among the best in Europe. The Metros are available in major Spanish cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Malaga, Seville and Valencia. The tickets and passes allow travel on all modes of public transportation including: Metros, buses and sub-urban train services. Metros are the quickest way to get around cities; unfortunately, they can become very crowded during rush hours.

If you plan to go from city to city, taking the RENFE (Red Nacional de los Ferrocarriles Españoles), you can quickly reach Spain’s different cities, and connect to smaller locations using regional trains. If you are on a budget however, traveling around Spain via the various bus companies is a thriftier choice. The downside of this however, is that the bus is one of the slowest means of transport.
