Rhode Island: Ranked #5

Beaches, seafood, and partying may sound like fun, but those aren’t the only things retirees consider when looking for a place to retire in. Rhode Island’s unquestionable beauty and rich culture, not to mention its sterling record for safety may sound appealing, but apparently, they’re not enough to exempt it from being listed among the worst states to retire in.
Retirees look at a place’s affordability when choosing a place to spend their golden years in. Rhode Island, having a cost of living 22% higher than the country average, doesn’t make it an ideal place to be spending what little retirement income you have saved.
Utilities there are also expensive, with its electricity prices being among the highest in the US. On top of that, residents pay exorbitant taxes, and shell-out ridiculous amounts for healthcare, which is why Rhode Island makes it to this list at #5.
