Maryland: Ranked #1

Maryland Stateventures

Maryland’s rich history and culture; picturesque landscape; and accessibility, might be tempting to most people looking for a place to retire in, but there is good reason why the state is the worst retirement destination of all the 50 states.
Maryland’s roadways, though well-maintained, is one of the most congested in the US. Spending your retirement sitting in traffic is not only a waste of time, but also be stressful, something you should be avoiding in your golden years.
If that’s not enough to turn you off, then maybe Maryland’s high cost of living, which is 17% north of the national average, will. The state’s taxation of IRAs, compounded by the expensive cost of healthcare there, doesn’t help its case either.
Weather-wise, Maryland winters can be cold, with the occasional storm blowing across it every-so-often, which is probably why some people say that Maryland seniors are arguably among the crabbiest in the nation.
