Ohio: Ranked #18

Principal

Ohio isn’t necessarily the worst place to retire in, but is also isn’t the best. Its low cost of living makes it affordable for those who wish to retire there. Unfortunately, it also has an average household income that falls below the national average.
Ohio’s tax situation is also friendly. Social Security benefits are exempted from taxes. Retirees also have the privilege of claiming tax credits of up to $200 on other retirement income. Not bad really. So why is Ohio on this list?
The state of senior wellness is the reason. According to Bankrate’s ranking of the best and worst states to retire in, Ohio ranks 47th among all the states when it comes to senior health.
