Arkansas’ low cost of living, expansive parks, warm summer weather and affordable real estate may be good reasons to move there after your retirement. Those, coupled with the state’s tax exemption on Social Security and retirement income (up to $6,000), would surely make it a contender for the best state to retire in, right?
Unfortunately, they don’t.
Arkansas’ poor quality of healthcare, the 2nd worst in the nation according to Wallethub. This is a huge reason why it makes it to this list of the worst states to retire in. Seniors, unsurprisingly, put a premium on healthcare when choosing a place to retire in, mainly for their peace of mind. Since they’re the ones who will be needing medical services the most, knowing that they live in a state that can take care of them when they get sick, leaves them with less to worry about during their golden years.
