Wisconsin: Ranked #17, (Tied with Kansas)

Wisconsin appears on this list because its seniors are known to have the lowest average household income among all the states in the nation, this according to Kiplinger’s ranking of the best and worst states to retire in. It also has relatively higher healthcare costs which also eat into a retiree’s finances. To make things worse, taxes are also levied by the state on retirement income. Fortunately, Social Security benefits are exempted from being charged such.
Another thing that landed Wisconsin on this list is its weather, which can be very cold and miserable, especially in the upper northeast and north-central lowlands. Because of this, Bankrate’s ranking of the best and worst states to retire in lists it as #43 among all other states.
