Living in Montana after retirement can be quite expensive as the state is known to have relatively high living costs compared to the rest of the country. This is made worse by the fact that the state also has one of the lowest average income per household. Moreover, the state also taxes most of your retirement income, including Social Security benefits!
Living in the state does have its perks. National parks such as Yellowstone and Glacier, give retirees something to enjoy. These natural wonders beat the boredom of staying cooped up at home, which probably is one of the reasons why the state has one of the largest populations of people aged 65 and above.
