From the fiscal year of 2019, GameStop closed 333 stores because of “underperforming,” while opening 12 new stores. In March this year, the company said that they are expecting 300 more store closures as continuing to “de-densify our global store fleet.” When the game retailer’s second quarter revenue came in below expectations, though their sales online had an increase of 800 percent, the company decided to increase the number of store closures even more from 300 to 450 worldwide. GameStop operates 5,122 retail stores all over the world.
