The century-old-family-owned sporting goods chain, Modell’s Sporting Goods has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last March and will be closing the remaining 153 stores it has left. There are over 30 Modell’s stores located in New Jersey alone, and about 140 other locations across the US. The company blamed a ‘challenging retail environment’ as the reason for the shuttering and bankruptcy.
