6,300 Stores Close As Consumers’ Buying Priorities Change

450 stores of Pier 1 Imports

In January of this year, Pier 1 announced that it will be closing 450 stores, which makes up half of their store count as they continue to struggle to make ends meet after years of declining sales. Currently, Pier 1 has around 950 stores and about 4,000 employees. These closures will affect thousand of their employees. Aside from shuttering down, the company also plans to decrease their corporate head count and get rid of some distribution centers.
