200 stores of Walgreens

Supermarket News

Based on an SEC filing in August, Walgreens announced to close 200 locations in the US under a multiyear cost-cutting program. The company’s decision to close stores follows “a review of the real estate footprint in the United States.” These closures represent less an 3% of Walgreens 9,600 stores. This new addition of 200 closures follows the previously announced cut of 750 stores, which is expected to be completed at the end of 2020. Because the company has thousands of different locations, Walgreens will not release a list of which locations will be shut down because of the foreseen minimal disruption to their patients and loyal customers.
