Since the beginning of the pandemic, the 85-year-old vitamin and dietary supplement company has been faced with almost $1 billion in debt, not to mention the decline in sales at its brick-and-mortar locations the year before. Last June, this retailer filed for bankruptcy and expects to close from 800 to 1,200 stores across the country while looking for a buyer to purchase the whole company. To start, GNC will close 248 stores as soon as possible and get started with the restructuring process to prepare for the future sale.
