16 Hallmark-branded stores will be shutting down in the US in 2020. Rick Schauer, owner of the Hallmark store in Forest Park, Illinois, said that social media such as Facebook and Instagram is crushing the hard copy greeting card business. “It’s just not a viable business any longer. People used to buy and send cards all the time. It’s all online now. Everyone celebrates their birthdays on social media,” he said.
