Climbing the Rope in Gym Class

Reddit

The Rope Climb was part of the yearly fitness tests that you went through in PE for most of middle school and all of high school. On TV or in movies, you’d see that there was just one type of rope climb: the impossibly high slack rope with the impossibly small mat on the bottom, with the callous gym instructor staring at his or her stopwatch while you struggled not to fall. In reality, rope climbs were part of physical calisthenics for many schools — with stations and levels to match fitness levels. Nowadays, kids do not have any rope climbing due to the potential liability they can catch if someone falls. They also do not have cargo nets or balance beams in some schools for the same reason.
