Pick Your Teams in Gym

Blogspot

When we were kids, getting picked in gym class was a matter of social pride. The good athletes and the popular kids got picked first — then the normal kids — lastly, the social outcasts or uncoordinated kids got picked last. In recent years, schools have come to see this perfectly normal practice of picking the best teammates as being discriminatory against so-called social outcasts and coordinated kids. Instead, teachers nowadays are told to select the teams or the programs in PE reinforce individual sports and fitness. We can’t say we see the need for this, as even though it sucks being picked last, it didn’t make the game any less fun.
