Spanking

The Atlantic

Corporal or physical punishment is banned in the United States’ military training centers and can no longer be carried out as a sentence for a crime. It is prohibited in most juvenile detention facilities as well. However, while it is still permissible to hit, spank, or slap a minor in many schools across the country (19 states still view paddling, spanking, or other forms of physical punishment as legal in public schools, and 48 states allow it in private schools) — the general tide is turning towards making the practice of corporal punishment obsolete. This is good news for kids these days, who will not have to go through the mental and physical anguish that a seemingly harmless “light paddling” can cause.
