Play Cops and Robbers

Back when we were kids, playing cops and robbers during recess wasn’t considered socially taboo. You were either a cop or a robber, you ran around the blacktop or the school yard — you were just playing with your classmates, expending energy and having fun while creating social bonds. Nowadays, these sorts of games are considered violent and are expressly forbidden on school grounds by a lot of different districts. In 2002, there was a unified effort on the part of teachers across the country banning cops and robbers as part of a “zero-tolerance crackdown on any signs of violence at school” — with children as young as six being suspended, and recently, kids as young as 13 being arrested for making their hands look like guns and pointing at classmates.
