Play Outside Unsupervised

The NY Post

Think back on when you were a kid, and how much time you actually spent outside. Let’s say, you spent at least three hours after school hanging out with your friends until dark. Perhaps double that on Saturdays and Sundays. Perhaps even more during summer vacation. Now, think back on all the times you were grateful for the space and freedom, and how glad you were that you didn’t have to have a parent with you everywhere you went. Kids these days will never experience that sort of freedom, unless it is accompanied by panicky adults thinking that these kids playing outside by themselves are somehow in danger. In fact, many parents are being approached and spoken to by local law enforcement when their kids are seen outside and reported by “concerned neighbors” — which we think is sad, considering how much fun we had growing up outside.
