A Lovely Parisian Garden

Cloudfront

This is a photo of a woman sitting in her garden, with two or three fully grown cannabis plants right next to her, her cool cat, and a bird. Shot and developed in 1910, this photo was taken right around the time where home aviaries and gardens were considered signs of affluence. The cannabis plants might have been just another garden plant, or maybe she and her family were using the medicinal properties of the plant to treat certain ailments. Either way, it is a far cry from today, where the cultivation, sale, and possession of cannabis for medicinal and recreational purposes are illegal in France. This creates a cognitive dissonance of sorts, as cannabis is widely used amongst locals in France, and the locals are believed to be rather tolerant of it. Possession of cannabis is illegal, because there is no difference between cannabis and any other drug, and France is known for having one of the harshest drug policies in Europe.
