This is a photo of a young Brigitte Bardot in a garden. Bardot may be known the world over as a sex symbol, but in reality, she is more a symbol of hope. An animal lover her whole life, Brigitte dedicated her life to the protection of defenseless animals and tried to raise awareness about their plight. When she retired in 1973 at the age of 39, she was able to fully dedicate her time to stopping the abuses against animals. Her major campaigns tried to abolish the consumption of horse meat, pushed for the sterilization of stray dogs, and condemned the Chinese practice of killing tigers, bears, and rhinos to make unfounded quack-science potions that supposedly act as aphrodisiacs.
