This is a photo of Ellen DeGeneres with her high school prom date, decades before she came out during an episode of her sitcom. In the show, DeGeneres inadvertently announces that she is gay over the airport PA system. In real life, DeGeneres went on Oprah to discuss her decision to come out in such a public way — and it has given hope to millions of people in the LGTBQIA+ community the world over. DeGeneres is now one of the longest running daytime show hosts, though she is currently in hot water for alleged “mean” behavior behind the scenes of her beloved show. Stories of her being unreasonable and generally a horrible human being are circulating on Twitter, with comedian Kevin Porter matching every tweet with $2 the the LA Food Bank. At the time an article for the Indepedent was published, Porter had paid $600 to the Food Bank. Perhaps someone should remind Ellen to be kind to people — but if nobody gets around to doing so to one of the most powerful people in Hollywood, at least Porter’s donations to the Food Bank will help a lot of people out.
