Let there Be Light

Cloudfront

This is a photo of a poor family in Russia getting electricity installed in their home. Russia has reported that 100 percent of their population as having access to electricity for several decades, however, there are reports that say that far-flung provinces like Siberia and the Far East often have no connection to the national power grid, which links over two million miles of power lines. Russia may be the fourth largest generator and consumer of electricity in the world, but those who have no access to the national power grid rely on diesel brought in by truck, boat, or helicopter. In Siberia and the Far East, people say, “Where there is no road, there is no grid.” In a lot of areas, there are no roads at all.
