Dial T for Tea

Cloudfront

This is a photo of famed director Alfred Hitchcock serving leading lady Grace Kelly a cup of tea between takes on the set of Dial M for Murder. Kelly was considered Hollywood’s Sweetheart, and the year after M for Murder came out, she met Prince Rainier of Monaco at the Cannes Film Festival. She soon married him and became the first American Princess. She retired from acting at the age of 26 in order to begin her duties as Princess of Monaco, despite Hitchcock trying to coax her out of retirement for roles in more of his films. She died at Monaco Hospital on 14 September 1982 from injuries sustained in a traffic collision the day before. She was only 52.
