This is a photo of Cassandra Peterson in character as Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. She hosted Elvira’s Movie Macabre, a weekly horror movie presentation on TV throughout the 80s and 90s. Elvira’s closing line for each show wished her audience “Unpleasant Dreams” as she walked off down a misty corridor. She rapidly gained notice with her tight-fitting, low-cut, big-in-front black gown, while adopting the tone of a Valley girl — this weird juxtaposition brought a satirical, sarcastic edge to her comedy and a lot of her jokes were risque double entendres that also made frequent mention of her cleavage.
