Kay Bear Cosplay @kayyybear is one of the most inspiring and empowering artists out there. She’s a powerful advocate of cosplay being open for everyone to freely express themselves in any character they choose, regardless of gender, race, age, status, or any other prejudiced standards. Unfortunately, there are some narrow-minded individuals who criticized her for cosplaying characters outside her race. Kay got a ton of hate and negativity for her portrayal of Mavis from Hotel Transylvania. She received hurtful messages that she shouldn’t have chosen Dracula’s daughter because of her skin color. First off, Mavis is not a privileged white chick from the suburbs. She’s not even human; she’s a vampire. Second, nobody’s stopping anyone from cosplaying as the green-skinned Gamora or the blue-skinned Nebula. And third, cosplay is a free realm where anyone can dress up as any character they want. So, kudos to Kay Bear Cosplay for putting those bigots in their place and for continuing to wow the internet with her incredible renditions of Kim Possible, Violet Parr from The Incredibles, Misa Amane from Death Note, Raven, Black Canary, and even the Joker.
